Following on from 2017's hugely successful 10th anniversary #Connected exhibition the weekend of the 7th and 8th April 2018 see the return of the popular, inspirational community driven exhibition of photography at Patchings Art centre in Nottingham in their pavilion gallery.
Thanks to amazing feedback and demand after last years two day launch event we have decided to maintain the two day launch event and really make it a social photography weekend for people to come along and listen to inspirational guest speakers, enjoy the creative endeavours of the community and importantly for guests who haven't exhibited before find out about getting involved in future years and events.
As always entry to the exhibition and all the talks by the guest speakers is completely free, this has always been really important to us in supporting our ethos of inclusivity, opportunity and community. We are hugely grateful to all our guest speakers who work with us and buy into this ethos as well as all the folk who help out in the preparation and running of the exhibition. A special thank you must also go to Fotospeed our official paper partners whose support and passion has been amazing over the years and is instrumental in us being able to keep the cost to exhibit for anyone taking part as low as we can.
A massive thank you this year also to The Tog Cast for their valuable support in co-hosting the 'photographers question time' event each day during the opening weekend. This is something of an idea that has been gestating for a few years now and we felt it was a great way to allow the audience and guest speakers to discuss either current photography issues or dig deeper into the some of the inspirations of our guests, artists and speakers. We wanted to make part of the day a truly collaborative session with lots of vibrant discussion and energy. Sam Gregory will help me co-host these and they will also feature as dedicated TogCast episodes or recordings.
This year we are proud to be able to present another inspiring and wide variety of exhibition images to all our guests, the standard of self curated work never ceases to amaze me and affirms my belief that there is such a creative, talented, energetic and vibrant community of photographers out there.
We are both proud and hugely excited to present, what we believe is again, an inspiring and extremely varied schedule of guest speakers to present different perspectives and personal experiences of photography to our guests to provide inspiration, food for thought and hopefully even challenge a few preconceptions along the way. Our guest speakers this year will cover a variety of areas and topics; there'll even be some technical and valuable printing discussion from the team at Fotospeed and we'll even have a practical drone photography demonstration too exploring this new, evolving and some times contentious genre of photography.

Saturday Evening Social Event / Meal
Some of the valuable feedback we received from our guests, speakers and participating artists last year was that it would be great to have a Saturday evening social event and maybe a meal? Well thanks to the work of one of our #Connected artists and helpers at #Connected, David Eberlin, we have organised an event for the Saturday evening at a nearby boat club which will include a meal and access to a licensed bar. There will be a small charge for the evening event / meal to help us cover the costs of the catering and room hire.
Tickets to the evening event will be £15 per person and we will add a link to book your place for this in the coming days. We do need to confirm attendance and numbers before the opening weekend as there will be a limit on places available (although the venue is large) and we need to help the caterers plan for the evening.
The evening meal will be a great chance to catch up with some of our guest speakers and speak to the other artists involved and guests as it is open to all to attend, please feel free to bring guests along too as long as you book the requisite number of spaces. Please keep an eye out on the web site and twitter over the coming days for booking information for the Saturday evening social event and meal.
The boat club also offer the ability for people to camp and also bring camper vans along too, there is no charge for anyone who'd like to take advantage of these facilities. The boat club have toilets and very good shower facilities which people camping or staying over in camper vans to access, there is also a very hearty breakfast at the boat club from in the mornings for less than a fiver.
Anyone not wishing to camp or who doesn't have a camper van and is looking for hotel accommodation could look HERE and the Bestwood Lodge is also a dog friendly hotel for anyone who may need this facility. After all there's ample dog walking grounds at Patchings.
