Art @ The Waterwheel, Liverton Village. North Yorkshire / Teesside.
Each year the #Connected exhibition has been held in Nottingham in April at the Patchings Art Centre, this isn't changing so don't panic, but due to the phenomenal demand over the recent years we have had many more people wishing to exhibit as part of #Connected than we have physically had space for. Given our commitment to opportunity and inclusivity we have spent the last year or so looking at the best way to provide the opportunity to exhibit creative output to as many people as we can.
So for 2018 we decided to hold a second #Connected event later in the year (November 10th & 11th) in North Yorkshire. We wanted to make sure the event was as good and built on the themes of the April event but also provided something different for everyone both exhibitors and guests. Hence #Connected:LandscapeInspired was born and will focus on drawing inspiration from the landscape but also on promoting art and photography in non traditional venues to widen the appeal and accessibility of the event.
A day of guest speakers and live performance of landscape inspired photography and mixed media art at an historic coaching inn on the North Yorkshire Moors........ close to the landscape that inspires so many.
There will be an exhibition of all the photographic works submitted by our #Connected artists who missed out on the April event with open viewing from 12 lunch time in the function rooms at this historic venue. From 3pm we have (at least) two guest speakers (there may be a surprise third ;-) ..... watch this space) including an exclusive live performance of landscape inspired film and original musical score.
Our speakers:
Professor Tim Allott (University of Manchester Professor of Geography)
Tim will be exploring how he is able to draw on 30 plus years as a research Physical Geographer to inform and inspire his personal landscape photography. He'll be leading us on a journey discussing how 'processes' and 'scale' are as important to our creative output as landscape photographers as well as our understanding and connection to the natural world.
Tim's images are stunning and display his deep understanding of the physical environment and I know his words will inspire and help us all understand and consider how we look at the world and portray it personally through our own photography.
Alastair will be exploring his deep love and connections to the landscape through his fascination in landscape history and change. Presenting his stunning work to illustrate his journey and how we can forge connections to the things we photograph through deeper inspection and knowledge of history. Alastair is a #Connected alumni and very much a passionate member of the photography community. Come and enjoy his stories, anecdotes and photography.
Spaceship Mark (Mark S Williamson)
Mark is a landscape inspired musician, film maker and image maker who produces compelling multi media pieces driven by these inspirations. At #Connected:LandscapeInspired Mark will given an exclusive first live performance of his new landscape inspired opus 'Paths Are Made By Walking' followed by a short talk and Q&A.
These three very different approaches to taking inspiration from the landscape are sure to entertain, engage, enthrall, challenge and ignite ideas and passion. As always at #Connected we aim to offer food for thought and start seedlings of ideas helping people see different views, ideas and methodologies to approaching and exploring creative expression.
In the evening of the Saturday there will be a social event and meal at the venue, the meal will be a carvery style and will include a vegetarian option but please do advise on the MEAL ONLY BOOKING FORM the number of vegetarians in your party.
You can book on to the evening meal and social event via the form above. On the Sunday (11th) we are holding a series of bookable 'walkshops' as our charity focus and anyone booking on these gets a complimentary meal per person booked so will not need to book twice.
We wanted to offer something a little different to the April #Connected event and something practical where guests could learn and see some superb photographers at work and talk to them about their inspiration, way of working, how they connect to a location, approach and technical skills they employ as part of the photography. With this in mind we have some amazing photographers who've offered to lead / co-lead these walkshops for our guests and share their knowledge, passion and skill. This will also be our main charity focus for the #Connected:LandscapeInspired event in support of the Staithes & Runswick RNLI.
All 3 walkshops are from 10am - 2pm on Sunday 11th November and cost £45 per person with a complimentary meal ticket for the previous night included.
